Science
The science curriculum will be integrated in the stories we are reading in our series, the science book, National Geographic Magazine, and Time for Kids. Hands-on science works because children already know how to do it. They have already observed, experimented and collected data---chasing leaves in the fall, experimenting to see what will float in the bathtub and collecting bugs and rocks. As teachers and parents we can help our children develop an understanding of the scientific principles behind these activities.
Real-life science surrounds us. Children want to know how and why things work. By using the scientific method we will find solutions to problems, and explain things they don't understand. A scientist uses the same steps each time to find an answer, no matter what type of problem it is.
Purpose------What do you want to learn?
Research-----Find out as much about your topic as you can.
Hypothesis--Predict the answer to the problem.
Experiment--Design a test to confirm or disprove your hypotheses.
Analysis-------Record what happened during the experiment.
Conclusion---Was your hypothesis correct?
Topics we will cover:
Forces and Interactions
Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems
Inheritance and Variation of Traits
Weather and Climate
Recycling
Animals-biomimicry/endangered/food chain/food web/life cycle
