Math
The goals for this program:
1. To develop an understanding of and gain insight into mathematical patterns through the use of concrete materials (manipulatives that can be touched and moved around).
2. To learn to value mathematics.
3. Becoming confident in one's own ability.
4. Becoming a mathematical problem solver.
It is important to surround children with a variety of challenging math experiences which enable children to internalize concepts within the context of real experiences.
Basic computation is a part of the mathematics curriculum. The basic facts need to be memorized (addition and subtraction in 2nd grade), multiplication and division in 3rd grade.
Please practice with your child for 10 minutes each night. A strong partnership between home and school helps students succeed in mathematics.
